Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This is one meme I can get on board with - I LOVE lists! I'll show you mine if you show me yours!

To be honest, there aren't many series that I've completed (I know, I know - another problem entirely), and of those that I have completed, I've largely been satisfied with the endings. So, I'm splitting my list. First are my top five disappointing series enders. Next are the top five upcoming series enders that I hope will NOT be disappointing. A lot of my favorite series are ending soon, and I'm already nervous about some of them!

Top Five Disappointing Series Enders

1. Reached (Matched #3) - I really loved Matched and Crossed. The build-up to the big finale brewed over two books, and I was so excited to read Reached that I pre-ordered the hardback from Amazon and rushed home from work the day it arrived to start it. However, I was left wanting so much more. More from Cassia's and Ky's reunion. More from the revolution. More on the Pilot. More on Zander's future. I was so disappointed.

2. Dead Ever After (Sookie Stackhouse #13) - I have to come clean on this one. I didn't actually read it in its entirety. The books in this series haven't captured me for a long time. Sookie started out strong and interesting and ended up wimpy and slutty. Eric used to be scary and alpha. He ended up whipped and boring. And Bill? I've always been on Team Bill, and when I saw where Sookie ended up after skipping to the end, irritated didn't even come close to covering it.

3. Breaking Dawn (Twilight #4) - For such a massive book, not a whole helluvalot happened in Breaking Dawn. Besides that, we had been building up to a huge confrontation with the Volturi for such a long time. So, they show up, talk a little bit, then say, "Oh, sorry. Our mistake. See ya later alligator." And turn around and leave. Really? REALLY?? No battle? No death to the bad guys? *yawn*

4. Mockingjay (Hunger Games #3) - I had so many problems with Mockingjay, I don't even know where to begin. Katniss was not the same person we all fell in love with. She was mopey and angsty and made decisions totally not in character with what we knew about her. And that epilogue was downright depressing. It felt like she had just given up and was leading the life she was expected to lead instead of the life she really wanted. Katniss fell very far from the pedestal on which I had set her.

5. Spellbound (Hex Hall #3) - I really loved the first two books in the Hex Hall series and was looking forward to seeing how it all turned out. There were so many cool things that COULD have happened. The set up for the trip to hell was awesome! And, we end up spending a few pages there. That's it. And don't get me started on the resolution of the love triangle. No spoilers, but UGH. I hated it.

Top Five Series Enders That I Hope WON'T Be Disappointing

1. Allegiant (Divergent #3) - I LOVED Divergent. And then I thought Insurgent was okay. And really confusing at the end. This is going to be a big book. A lot of loose ends need tied up. And Tris and Four need to find their HEA.

2. Up From The Grave (Night Huntress #7) - This is, quite possibly, my favorite series of all time. And it's coming to an end in January. I'm so sad. I want Jeaniene Frost to give Cat and Bones the send-off they deserve. I want it to be EPIC.

3. Ignite Me (Shatter Me #3) - 99% of my nervousness
regarding Ignite Me is due to the resolution of the love triangle. I hate love triangles so much - they make me all angsty. This is one of the worst. I'm so scared that Juliette will end up with the wrong guy (which would be Warner). #TeamAdam

4. The One (The Selection #3) - Same deal as #3. America's got a choice to make - Aspen (no!) or Maxon (YES!). On top of that, she's got competition, for Maxon at least. I'm already stressed out just thinking about it.

5. City of Heavenly Fire (Mortal Instruments #6) - This will be the end of Jace's and Clary's story. I so want it to be done right. After the third book in the series, the series hasn't gripped me. This is the final chance. I expect a major final battle, some main character deaths and a fulfilling HEA. That's a tall order to fill.

Totally agree with you on Mockingjay! It was a disappointment! And Dead Ever After- the series had such a decline, I honestly just flipped to the end in Walmart and saw who she choose and went, "Huh." And walked away. LOL. I'm a bit bummed you feel that way about Spell Bound. I've only read the first in the series, but I've got the last two, just haven't had time. And all 5 of your hopefuls- girl I'm right there with you. I want all of those to have awesome endings! Great list Krista!

You've got some great books there, i agree with mockingjay, breaking dawn and dead ever after. I've just started reading matched so am disappointed if it doesn't end well. I also hope the same for every book on your hope list apart from night huntress (as haven't read any so don't know anything) and ignite me, but about to start reading shatter me so i'm sure i'll feel the same too. I have high high hopes for Allegiant and i really don't want it to be a disappointment. Same with The One, i finished The Selection recently and really enjoyed it so am hoping for the best. After City of Glass i haven't been as keen on the Mortal Instruments series, however as long as this is the last i really want her to end it well like she did in CoG. Great list!
Thanks for stopping by my TTT. :)

Loved your list, Krista! While I've only read the first Matched book (Xander <3 ), I completely agree with you on everything.
I, too, am so scared to read Ignite Me. I'll be biting my nails while reading it, I'm sure! Team Adam. All. The. Way.

Haha I'm the total oddball that really liked Breaking Dawn! That's okay - I stand by it! :)
I TOTALLY agree on Reached. Just.. no. I didn't like any of it and couldn't even finish it. Kudos to you! I just couldn't get into it.
Thanks for stopping by my TTT as well! :)

Out of all the books you listed in the Disappointing Enders, I've only read one, and that's MOCKINGJAY. *ducks head* After hearing so much about TWILIGHT, I've had absolutely no desire whatsoever to read that series, so I'll just take your word that the fourth book was horrible and leave it at that!

1. Reached: What a disappointment! I mean, I haven't read MATCHED yet, and judging on the multitude of mixed reviews I've been seeing about it, I'm kind of wondering if it's even worth a shot - especially since the finale obviously doesn't live up to expectations. "I was left wanting so much more." - This is exactly how I felt after reading REQUIEM. :(

6. Allegiant: Oh gosh, I really hope this one doesn't disappoint, because if it does, I will be SO angry. I'll go start a riot out in the streets and ask Veronica to rewrite. Haha, no, I won't, but there's so much anticipation for this book, and since INSURGENT was only an okay read for me, I'm worried about how the final book will be like. And I need more Four + Tris. ASAP!

8. Ignite Me: Ugh, yes, love triangles. I guess they'e okay when done right, but most of the time, they only add to the drama and absolute ridiculousness of the novel. I'm not a fan of them. I still need to read UNRAVEL ME, though.

Great list, Krista!

Great lists!
I agree on Mockingjay - if I read it now, I'd probably hate it. Actually, Mockingjay is the reason why I don't count THG trilogy as one of my favs anymore, even though I loved books 1 & 2, and probably will never read them again, even though I love re-reading.
I'm yet to finish the Hex Hall trilogy, and although I loved Divergent, I still have to make myself to finish Insurgent, hopefully, I'll do that soon, and yeah, I love the Night Huntress series, and it will be so sad saying goodbye to them, but hopefully, the final book would be the perfect finale for them.
And I have the same problem with love triangles, that's why I usually stay away from books with them.

By the way, YAY for you loving the Seven Realms series!

I actually did enjoy the last Hex Hall book for the most part, but I definitely agree with the love triangle resolution - it just seemed too easy. When I read it, I was thinking to myself "Really? This was the only way you could think to wrap it up? How absolutely convenient..."

And I'm kind of nervous for Ignite Me as well - I like the Juliette-Warner relationship way more than I should, but that doesn't change the fact that Warner is basically a sociopath or psychopath or just not a good guy, and that the only way Juliette should end up with him is if he gets a completely new identity or something, which I kind of don't see happening. If anything, I kind of want Juliette with Kenji, even though I appreciate their platonic relationship. Team "Kenji is Awesome"!

I'm with you on the end of the Hex Hall series!! There are so many ways that book could have been so much better!

Great list! Those endings better be good! I've not read the Hex Hall series yet. I plan too but hopefully the ending isn't that bad :-/

Dead Ever After was a big letdown. I initially decided not to post a review but I can't help myself. I just have to share my misery with our followers! LOL

I still haven't even gotten to the last Sookie book yet. Like you, the last few of the series have been so disappointing that I can't even bring myself to pick it up!

I read the last sookie book, but I honestly can't remember it. I can see where you wouldn't like the ending of Hex Hall, it's hard to find a happy ending with a triangle, which is why I hate them so much. I think the reason I liked Mockingjay was because even though Katniss's character changed so much, she changed in a very real way. Thanks for visiting my TTT.

I am really nervous about reading Allegiant. I was actually a little disappointed with Insurgent and given the way that the Matched trilogy ended...at least there isn't a love triangle to deal with too...

Yay, Team Adam! Although I have to say, I'm getting very nervous about this, I have a bad feeling about that one. Warner is not good for her, he does not love her, he is just a psycho who is obsessed with her (although I do feel somewhat bad for him, but still). Thanks for visiting! ~Pam

Good list! I don't think I'm going to like The One though. I wasn't too impressed with books 1 and 2. Same for Ignite Me - I just read Shatter Me recently and was a bit disappointed...
Happy reading!

I love how you did the series you hope won't be disappointing. I completely agree about Allegiant, if that one is bad it will kill me.

So glad to see Breaking Dawn on your list. I mean, so much rage on all of the things that didn't happen. Plus, it could have been so much shorter.

Oh yes, Mockingjay and Spellbound. Poor Finnick and Cal! -cue the sobs-
I really hope Up From the Grave won't be disappointing! I'll literally cry if it is - Cat and Bones deserves WAY more than an awful ending.
Great list & thanks for stopping by my TTT! (:

I agree with City of Heavenly Fire. I really liked the first three (and felt it was complete), but I didn't enjoy the fourth one much. I haven't even picked up book 5 yet, but I hope it all ends well. I'm also interested to see how Allegiant ties everything up!

Thanks for sharing your list and for stopping by mine! :)

Cassie Clare said on twitter that there are actually 6 main character-deaths on CoHF. I wish it won't be Magnus.

I loved your list Krista. Completely agree on Dead Ever After and Mockingjay. I felt The Hunger Games was by far the best book in series. Sookie Stackhouse definitely declined in quality, especially after Book 7, however I slogged through that series to the bitter end. Worse book of the year for me was easily DEA. I read the first two Twilight books as a friend kept raving about them, expecting them to get better, however I couldn't carry on with them.
