RELEASE WEEK BLITZ: Mister Moneybags

Mister Moneybags is live!

Mister Moneybags, by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward
Publish Date:
April 10, 2017
Publisher: self-published
Genre: adult contemporary romance
To Buy: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

(Synopsis) I met Bianca in an elevator.

She was on her way to interview me when we got stuck.
The beautiful, raven-haired reporter assumed I was a delivery guy because of the way I was dressed.

She had no clue I was really Dex Truitt, the wealthy, successful businessman she’d dubbed “Mister Moneybags”—her afternoon appointment.

Bianca told me how much she hated Dex’s type—snobby, over educated, silver- spooned men who didn't appreciate the simple things in life.

So, after the elevator finally started moving again, I cancelled the interview and let her believe I was someone I wasn’t—a bike messenger named Jay. I loved the way she looked at the fake me and didn't want it to end.

I began dating her as “Jay”—all the while letting her interview the real me over email.

I didn’t expect that our chemistry online would be just as hot.
I didn’t expect the mess I’d gotten myself into.I didn’t expect that Jay and Dex would fall in love with her.

And she was falling for two men.
Only, both men were me.
And when she found out, we were both going to lose her.

Nothing could have prepared me for that day. And I certainly wasn't prepared for what came after.

All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn't see coming.

(Synopsis) For some people, silence is a weapon. For Mallory “Mouse” Dodge, it’s a shield. Growing up, she learned that the best way to survive was to say nothing. And even though it’s been four years since her nightmare ended, she’s beginning to worry that the fear that holds her back will last a lifetime.

Now, after years of homeschooling with loving adoptive parents, Mallory must face a new milestone—spending her senior year at public high school. But of all the terrifying and exhilarating scenarios she’s imagined, there’s one she never dreamed of—that she’d run into Rider Stark, the friend and protector she hasn’t seen since childhood, on her very first day.

It doesn’t take long for Mallory to realize that the connection she shared with Rider never really faded. Yet the deeper their bond grows, the more it becomes apparent that she’s not the only one grappling with the lingering scars from the past. And as she watches Rider’s life spiral out of control, Mallory faces a choice between staying silent and speaking out—for the people she loves, the life she wants, and the truths that need to be heard.
Check out my 5 star review here.

Prologue

Dusty, empty shoe boxes, stacked taller and wider than her slim body, wobbled as she pressed her back against them, tucking her bony knees into her chest.

Breathe. Just Breathe. Breathe.

Wedged in the back of the dingy closet, she didn’t dare make a sound as she sucked her lower lip between her teeth. Focusing on forcing every grimy breath into her lungs, she felt tears well in her eyes.

Oh gosh, she’d made such a big mistake, and Miss Becky was right. She was a bad girl.

She’d reached for the dirty and stained cookie jar earlier, the one shaped like a teddy bear that hid cookies that tasted funny. She wasn’t supposed to get cookies or any food by herself, but she’d just been so hungry that her tummy hurt, and Miss Becky was sick again, napping on the couch. She hadn’t meant to knock the ashtray off the counter, shattering it into tiny pieces. Some were shaped like icicles that clung to the roof during the winter. Others were no bigger than chips.

All she’d wanted was a cookie.

Her slender shoulders jerked at the sound of the all cracking on the other side of the closet. She bit down harder on her lip. A metallic taste burst into her mouth. Tomorrow there would be a hold the size of Mr. Henry’s big hand in the plaster, and Miss Becky would cry and she’d get sick again.

The soft creak of the closet door was like a crack of thunder to her ears.

Oh no, no, no…

He wasn’t supposed to find her in here. This was her safe place whenever Mr. Henry was angry or when he—

She tensed, eyes peeling wide as a body taller and broader than hers slipped inside and then knelt in front of her. In the dark, she couldn’t make out much of his features, but she knew in her belly and her chest who it was.

“I’m sorry,” she gasped.

“I know.” A hand settled on her shoulder, the weight reassuring. He was the only person she felt okay with when he touched her. “I need you to stay in here, ‘kay?”
Miss Becky had said once that he was only six months older than her six years, but he always seemed so much bigger, older than her, because in her eyes, he took up her entire world.

She nodded.

“Don’t come out,” he said, and then he pressed into her hands the redheaded doll she’d dropped in the kitchen after she broke the ashtray and rushed into the closet. Too frightened to retrieve her, she’d left Velvet where she had fallen, and she’d been so upset because the doll had been a gift from him many, many months before. She had no idea how he’d gotten Velvet, but one day he’d simply shown up with her, and she was hers, only hers.

“You stay in here. No matter what.”

Holding the doll close, clenched between her knees and chest, she nodded again.

He shifted, stiffening as an angry shout rattled the walls around them. It was her name that dripped ice down her spine; her name that was shouted so furiously.

A small whimper parted her lips and she whispered, “I just wanted a cookie.”
“It’s okay. Remember? I promised I’d keep you safe forever. Just don’t make a sound.” He squeezed her shoulder. “Just stay quiet, and when I…when I get back, I’ll read to you, ‘kay? All about the stupid rabbit.”

All she could do was nod again, because there had been times when she hadn’t stayed quiet and she’d never forgotten those consequences. But if she stayed quiet, she knew what was coming. He wouldn’t be able to read to her tonight. Tomorrow he would miss school and he wouldn’t be okay even though he would tell her he was.

He lingered for a moment and then he eased out of the closet. The bedroom door shut with a smack, and she lifted the doll, pressing her tearstained face into it. A button on Velvet’s chest poked at her cheek.

Don’t make a sound.

Mr. Henry started to yell.

Don’t make a sound.

Footsteps punched down the hall.

Don’t make a sound.

Flesh smacked. Something hit the floor, and Miss Becky must have been feeling better, because she was suddenly shouting, but in the closet the only sound that mattered was the fleshy whack that came over and over. She opened her mouth, screaming silently into the doll.

Don’t make a sound.

(From Goodreads) Everyone needs a hero.

That’s what Detective Molly Masters tells me. “What we need,” she says, “what the whole world needs,” she pleads, “is a champion.”

The only thing I want to talk about with Molly Masters is how I’d like to make her scream my name when I push her up against a wall, slide my hand up her thigh, and live out my wildest fantasies.

“Someone who will fight against injustice,” she says.

I’ll fight against anything you want, honey. Just come a little closer.

“Someone who will stand tall in the face of adversity,” she says.

I’ll do it standing, sitting, or lying down. See how easy I am?

“Someone who believes in the value of a good deed,” she says.

I believe in the value of me, sweetheart. Because I’m Lincoln Wade. Jaded genius, obscenely wealthy, capable of violence, and looking for revenge.

Molly Masters might have delusions of grandeur. She might see me as some superman capable of cleaning up the scum, filth, and corruption in Cathedral City.

But I’m not the hero she’s looking for.

I’m the dark alley where all her good intentions hide.

So be careful what you wish for, Molly Masters.

Because you’re about to get it.

I have to admit - I struggled with how to write my review for Anarchy Found.  That is mostly because I have nothing I can compare this to - there is no standard. No set bar to reach. Anarchy Found is unlike any book I've ever read before (and I've read A LOT of books in the past four years).

It's not exactly a super hero book, although the men featured in this book are definitely super, and their hero potential is off the charts. It's not exactly a romantic book, even though some parts definitely had me swooning. It's not erotica, but prepare for some sizzling hot chapters. And it's not an MC book, even though our main character, Lincoln Wade, owns a few bikes and rides them like he means it.

Anarchy Found is none of those things, and yet all of them at the same time. Trust me - this is a good thing. And, what's even better is, this is just the beginning of what I'm guessing will be an exciting ride.

Molly is a green detective who is six months out from the tragic loss of her brother, who is the last family she has left. She runs into Lincoln one night on a rainy stretch of road, and has an interesting and unexpected afternoon with him. There's no doubt he left an impression on her

But damn if he isn't one sexy asshole in that leather jacket, the tight jeans that show the muscles in his legs, that black t-shirt clinging to his chest like it's painted on, and a face I might be thinking about when I'm alone tonight.

Prepare yourself for some serious info dump in Anarchy Found. It definitely sets the stage for the rest of the series, and as such, there is a lot of backstory to reveal and absorb. Luckily, it's not done all at once in long droning paragraphs. The story of how Lincoln Wade and Molly Masters ended up where they are today is slowly revealed as Molly tries to uncover how and why employees of one company committed suicide.

Lincoln is unlike any hero you've ever encountered before - I promise you that. I can't tell you all the reasons why - that will spoil the fun. But, I can tell you that Linc embodies the anti-hero role. When he tells Molly that he's the bad guy, he really means it.

She's a cop. I'm a criminal. She's good and I'm bad. She's the end and I'm the beginning.

So, you have to ask yourself - if someone does bad things for a good reason, what does that make them? A hero? A villain with a conscience? Are good intentions enough to absolve someone of the consequences of their actions? These are all questions I found myself asking as I read Anarchy Found. Molly asked herself those questions too. And by the end, I think both of us had our answers.

One of my favorite parts about Anarchy Found was the connection between Linc and Molly. It was powerful from the very beginning. I had no idea how powerful it was, or why, until many chapters later. Before I fully understood everything that was going on, Linc's actions and words confused me. He would do and say things that conveyed that he loved this girl fiercely. And then, he would say and do something to contradict that. But, in the end, it was crystal clear that Molly was it for him, and always had been.

"I didn't save anyone. You saved yourself. And don't you ever forget that. You're the superhero with all the power and I am nothing without you."

There's a very strong sci-fi element to Anarchy Found. There were times that I found myself likening to to the X-Men franchise. Other times, it had a bit of a Terminator vibe to it. And, still other times, despite Lincoln's constant annoyance at the comparison, I could've sworn that he was a Batman wannabe and Cathedral City was the new Gotham. No matter what you compare it to, just be aware that each chapter sends you further and further down the rabbit hole, so where you start is light years away from where the book ends.

This review may seem a bit vaguer than usual, and I'm sorry for that. But, SO MUCH happens in this book. I don't want to give any of it away so that you can experience it all for yourself. Prepare for a wild and twisty ride.

Easy Melody (Boudreaux #3), by Kristen Proby
Publish Date:
November 10, 2015
Publisher: self-published
Genre: adult contemporary romance

(From Goodreads) Callie Mills never intended to return to New Orleans and the life she left behind more than a decade ago. There was no need to open old wounds when she had the life she’d worked hard for in Denver. But when she’s fired from her awesome job in Colorado and her father dies, she has no choice but to return home to run the derelict bar left to her in the heart of the French Quarter. Callie must not only face bad memories but turn The Odyssey into something she can be proud of.

And who better to help bring in crowds of people than Declan Boudreaux?

Declan is a sought-after musician who knows he’s good at what he does and loves doing it. Known to pack the house, he also loves women and doesn’t expect to be knocked back a step by the beautiful new owner of The Odyssey. Callie is sharp, gorgeous and funny, and makes him yearn for something he never has before… Commitment.

But when Callie’s able to turn the business around with renovations, making it one of the hottest bars in the Quarter, will she sell out and leave her past behind once and for all, or will Declan be able to convince her that’s she’s where she needed to be all along…in his arms.

He said it last night, whispered it actually, as he wrapped himself around me and settled us both in to catch our breath. I’m not sure if he intended to say it out loud.
Not that it matters.

Except, I’m not sure how I feel about it. And frankly, after a night of some of the best sex I’ve had in… ever, I guess it means I’m okay with it.

Because I definitely feel pretty possessive when it comes to him too.

But now it’s the morning after, and historically speaking, we’re not good at this part. Is it going to be awkward? Is he not going to call for a week again, and then act affronted when I’m mad?

Ugh, this part sucks.

He’s not wrapped around me anymore. Thankfully, he’s the same as me in that the snuggles are nice for about three minutes, and then it’s time to roll away and sleep in a position that isn’t as hot as the devil’s house. But the sweet thing is, even in sleep, he keeps tabs on me. His hand on my arm, his foot on my calf. He’s always touching me in some way.

And I like it. It makes me feel safe. I don’t remember the last time someone else made me feel safe. Even my own father loved me, but I didn’t ever dare let my guard down with him.

With Declan, I sleep like a baby. Of course, that could simply be exhaustion.

The man knows his way around the bedroom. And the bathroom and the stairs, if memory serves correctly.

I grin and stretch, look over my shoulder at the man himself, then slip from the bed and hunt up my clothes, scattered about the room. The sun is up, but just barely, bathing Declan’s bedroom in that early morning glow.

I pull my bra on, and am just slipping my shirt over my head when I hear, “Where are you going?”

“Home.” I grin at him as I push my hands through my hair, shaking it out. “Sorry I woke you.”

“I’m not,” he replies and sits up. His hazel eyes, heavy with sleep, narrow on me as I wince. “What’s wrong?”

I’m sore from you fucking the living hell out of me all night long. Not that I can tell him that. “Just stepped wrong,” I reply, hearing the lameness with my own ears.

“Thanks for—“

“Maybe you should—“

We both speak at the same time, then smile. “You go,” I say.

“Stay,” he simply says and slowly crawls out of bed, gloriously naked, and walks to me. I can’t stop my eyes from roaming up and down his lean, tall body. His tanned skin is smooth over lean muscles, his arms tattooed.

“I can go home,” I murmur, but Declan reaches for me and pulls me against him. His hand slides from my neck to my ass, where he grips onto me firmly.

“I’ve never asked anyone to stay before,” he whispers, then kisses my forehead. “I’m asking you, Calliope, to spend the day with me.”
