DUAL COVER REVEAL & GIVEAWAY: Guns: The Spencer Book + Bomb: A Day In The Life of Spencer Shrike

So, you all should know by now how much I LOVE The Rook & Ronin series by J.A. Huss. They are gritty, dirty, unique and so very, very hot. One of my favorite characters in the series has always been Spencer. And, now, his book - GUNS: THE SPENCER BOOK - is almost here! So, why do I love Spence so much? Part of that answer is in the cover of his book. I mean - just look at him.

Are you ready to be leveled with some serious hotness?

Guns: The Spencer Book (Rook and Ronin Spinoff), by J.A. Huss
To Be Published March 31, 2014
Genre:
new adult contemporary romance

(From Goodreads)
The Team is growing. It’s no longer just Ford, Spencer, and Ronin and the three new additions have Spencer Shrike off his booze, off his bikes, and paranoid to the extreme. Every Team member has a job, and every job is important—but only Spencer’s job keeps everyone alive.

Veronica Vaughn has put up with Spencer Shrike’s shit for years and where has it gotten her? A big fat nowhere. No ring, no house, no kids, and no promises. In fact, Spencer is worse than ever—completely distant and moody—and his fascination with weapons has turned into an obsession.

Now there’s another man in town with his eye on her. And she’s ready to jump ship. The last thing on Spencer’s mind is a relationship, and Veronica Vaughn has had enough.

But what if Spencer has a reason to keep Veronica at arm’s length? What if her life depends on his painful indifference? And what if… a very dangerous man with a very real vendetta sees through his ruse with killer clarity?

GUNS brings the entire Rook and Ronin series full circle. Every con, every lie, and every skeleton in the closet is back for one final shot at vengeance and the only thing standing in the way… is Spencer Shrike.

Sounds amazing, right? Well, what's even more amazing is that we will get a peek into Spencer's life before Guns in his own novella, Bomb: A Day In The Life of Spencer Shrike.  So... you wanna see that cover now too?

Bomb: A Day In The Life of Spencer Shrike (Rook and Ronin Spinoff), by J.A. Huss
To Be Published February 17, 2014
Genre:
new adult contemporary romance

(From Goodreads) Spencer Shrike is a plotter. Known for his ingenious, albeit illegal, plans that keeps the Team running efficiently and out of jail, he carries this same love of order into his personal life. He’s kept his long-time main squeeze on the sidelines for years as he builds the Shrike Bikes empire.

Veronica Vaughn is an explosion ready to happen. Ronnie lives in the here and now. She lives for today. She
knows what she wants, and she wants it now. And right now Ron the Bomb Vaughn wants Spencer shrike to leave her the hell alone. She’s done playing his game. She’s done waiting around. She’s moving forward with her own plots, plans, and dreams and she’s moving forward tonight. Ron the Bomb is finally—finally—gonna get some satisfaction.

Too bad Spencer Shrike is standing in her way.

COVER REVEAL: Taut: The Ford Book (A Rook and Ronin Spin-Off)

For my second cover reveal of the day, I can't wait to show you the cover for one of the most anticipated new adult spin-offs on my TBR - TAUT: The Ford Book (A Rook and Ronin Spin-Off). If you've read the Rook and Ronin series, you've met and likely fallen in love with the complicated enigma that is Ford, same as me. I did a little happy dance when I found out that J.A. Huss was writing companion books for both Ford and Spencer. And, now - FINALLY - Ford's book is here.

Coming in January 2014

About TAUT: The Ford Book (A Rook and Ronin Spin-off) by J.A. Huss
Ford Aston is getting the f*ck out of Denver. He does not give a shit about blizzards, getting his old ass Bronco over the Rocky Mountains in one piece, or a girl knocking on his hotel door looking to be saved.
Ford Aston is known for many things. Being an emotionless, messed up bastard, a freakishly smart social outcast, and a cold, domineering master who keeps “pets” instead of girlfriends.
And after Rook broke his heart, he plans to keep it that way.
******
Ashleigh is getting the f*ck out of somewhere, but she’s not quite sure where she’s coming from, let alone where she’s going.

Ashleigh is known for nothing, and that’s exactly what she’s got going for her. She’s broke, stranded in the mountains with a three month old baby, and Ford Aston is f*cking with her head.

Big. Time.

And she plans to f*ck with his right back.
******
It’s a coy game at first, filled with flirting, and innuendo—but Ford soon realizes something is not quite right with Ashleigh. In fact, something is seriously, seriously wrong and the closer they get to their final destination, the closer Ford gets to the truth.

One night of devastation, self-loathing, and emptiness turns into the best thing that ever happened to Ford Aston. But one day of in-your-face reality threatens Ashleigh's whole existence. Can Ford allow another woman into his heart and risk the possibility of being hurt, or will he walk away from Ashleigh just when she needs him most?

(From Goodreads) Rook is chasing her dream—film school and a chance at a life beyond the one she ran from six months ago. But before she can become the girl she wants to be, she must deal with the girl she left behind.

Ronin is also chasing his dream—a family of his own and a life away from erotic modeling. And he too, has a past he’s trying to forget. A past that makes Rook question everything about their life together.

Lies, secrets, and shocking truths will rock the foundation Rook and Ronin have built. Can they put the past behind them and move forward together? Or is this just another too good to be true relationship that will crash and burn in the end?

"Don't panic, Gidget. Be still and stay calm. We'll be OK, I promise. Just keep calm and it will all work out."
I can't believe that Rook's and Ronin's story is over! And, as far as series finales go, this was a doozy. I was barely 20% into Panic when I started... well, panicking, actually. And then I started to feel better. And then I was freaking out again - it was a crazy, wonderful roller coaster of a book.

Rook only has to get through one season on the new Shrike Bikes reality show and then she and Ronin can start to live their lives together. But, complications abound - the show is shooting a few hours away from Denver, so she has to be away from Ronin. Meanwhile, Ronin is happy because Claire is out of rehab and looking really, REALLY good, which makes Rook really, REALLY unhappy. Luckily, she has the dynamic, hot duo of Spencer and Ford to keep her comfy and warm - maybe a little too warm if Ford has his way. And, it soon becomes apparent that, even though Rook's ex Jon is in jail, he's still not completely done wreaking havoc on Rook's life.

Rook has come a really long way from the timid, cowering girl we saw in the beginning of Tragic. Her experiences as a model and Ronin's love have given her confidence and guts. Although she hasn't yet gotten to the point where she can deal with all the nasty stuff that happened to her in her past (and, believe me - it was pretty horrific), she's in a good place. She has good friends in Antoine, Elise, Spencer and Ford. And she has the promise of a good life someday with Ronin. Provided he can be patient enough to wait for her to get over it all.
I look up at this incredible man and I have no words for what I feel. I'm not falling for Ronin. I'm laid out flat on my face.
Ronin, meanwhile, has never wavered. Once he realized Rook was "the one," he stayed the course. I think she needed that from him - to be the constant in her ever-changing world. But, in Panic, Ronin's past catches up with him too, and as it turns out, he needs Rook as much as she needs him.
She kisses me and the whole world disappears. Just blips out of existence for me. When she kisses me there is nothing but her tender lips and my pounding heart. There is nothing but the buzzing of her essence coursing in my blood and penetrating my soul. There is nothing but us.
We see a lot of Spencer and Ford in Panic - especially Ford. We are allowed a peek into his life and into his psyche, and not all of it is pretty. But, most of all, we see how these two guys have come to care for Rook in their own special ways. Goodness, I love these boys. They really would do anything for both her and Ronin. As Rook is finding herself, Ford has taken on the role of the tortured soul. Most of the emotional moments for me came during Ford moments. In fact, the epilogue is from Ford's POV, and gave us the perfect set up for Huss' next series (which is all about FORD!).

After Rook and Ronin are thrust into yet another catastrophe created by Rook's ex, Jon, they are forced to make really tough choices. And, it all comes back to what they are willing to fight for.
I'd never leave you. I hope you know that, Rook. I'd never walk out. I'd fight for you every single time. You'd never even have to wonder if I'd be there because I'd show the fuck up before that thought could ever cross your mind. I want you. I'd risk everything for you. - Ronin
I'll fight for us every single time. You'll never even have to wonder if I'll be there, because I'll show the fuck up before that thought can even cross your mind. I want you, Ronin and I'll risk everything for you. I will never walk out on you. - Rook
If that doesn't give you the feely sighs, I don't know what will.

As per usual, Panic is told in dual POV - Rook's and Ronin's. We see more of Ronin's POV here then in the previous two books, which is fine by me. That man's mind is a beautiful place. The only thing missing from this incredible book is the modeling aspect. I did miss that - it was such an interesting part of the first two.  There's also not nearly as many steamy scenes, but the ones that are there are good ones. Oh, and if you have an aversion to the f-word, be forewarned. You will be desensitized to it before you reach the end. :)

The Rook and Ronin series was so good, and Panic was the best of the bunch. I can't wait to see how Huss will break down Ford's walls for us in her next spin-off series. Mark your calendars - it's sure to be epic.

Awesome new - right now, TRAGIC and MANIC are each only $0.99! If you haven't started this series yet, now is the perfect time to start it.

(From Goodreads) TRAGIC is over and Rook is ready for the future—Spencer Shrike and the STURGIS contract!

It’s three months of body art modeling! That means three months of Spencer Shrike’s paintbrush all over her body, three months in front of Antoine’s camera, and three months of twenty-four hour filming for Spencer’s Biker Channel reality show.

Wait a minute…what reality show? Maybe she should’ve read that STURGIS contract a little closer? ;)

Sure, Rook’s bank account is almost overflowing, but Ronin is angry, Clare is trying to escape rehab, Antoine is a worried mess, and Elise is just trying to hold everyone together. Her new family is about to fall apart before she even gets the chance to enjoy them.

Add in a mysterious man from her past, a road trip to the famous Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and a final show in front of the entire world where all her good are on display, and you’ve got Manic—a new adult contemporary romance that will definitely make your summer sizzle!

I was so excited to start reading Manic (Tragic #2), I began it as soon as I got my hands on it. Rook and Ronin's relationship was a little weird when we last saw them, and I was anxious to see where things laid between them at the opening. In addition, a few new intriguing characters were introduced at the end of Tragic that I was fascinated to learn more about.

When the book begins, Rook is regretting her decision to be Spencer's body art model. She has realized that it might ruin what she has with Ronin which is still very much in its fledgling stage. But, she's signed a contract and must go through with it. Compounding matters is project manager Ford and his terrible attitude and obvious dislike for Rook. And the icing on the cake is when Ronin is called away to - yet again - take care of Clare. Rook is doubting everything she thinks she knows about the people in her new life.

I got the impression at the end of Tragic that things were good between Rook and Ronin, but not quite completely solid. They're a different sort of couple working in an industry that I would think would make real relationships difficult. They need a period of time to really get connected, but Ronin  is always being put in a tight spot concerning Clare and Rook needs to get naked every day for Spencer. How can a connection occur in situations like that?

The best part about Manic is that Huss doesn't gloss over the hard parts for Rook and Ronin. Things really AREN'T easy for them, and she doesn't fashion a quick fix. Ronin makes some mistakes and so does Rook. They have some problems and the way doesn't seem clear. Rook and Ronin aren't the most poetic couple - neither has a way with words that some book characters do. Yet, every now and again, Ronin pulls something out that makes me sigh and gives me hope for these two.
"I've never dated a girl like you, Rook. You are everything I want. I love all your parts. I love the wary parts, the defiant parts, the independent parts, and your innocence and vulnerability. I want you next to me and when you're not there I feel like a part of me is missing. I'm so in love with you, Rook. So fucking in love with you it scares me."
The new characters made Manic that much more interesting. Spencer and his body painting were completely captivating. I loved reading about what scenario Spencer was painting for on the different days and how it would play in with the bikes and the scenery. As a marketing professional, I can envision the brochure in my mind, and it's frikkin' AMAZING. I loved learning more about Spencer and his past too. He's a really cool guy.

But, Ford really was the one who stole the show in Manic. It seemed like he felt one way, but in actuality, he felt exactly the opposite. He's got a complex past with Ronin and Spencer that has only barely been investigated yet. I'm hoping we see more about their past in Panic (Tragic #3).

The explosive ending was exciting and suspenseful, and just a smidge over the top. I didn't mind it all that much. It just wasn't entirely believable. The thing is, I was so taken with all the rest of it, the over-the-top factor didn't seem so important to me.

Definitely check out Tragic and Manic - J.A. Huss is an incredible author weaving a fantastic story!

(From Goodreads) Rook Walsh is TRAGIC

Because life so far – just sucks. Some girls get parents. Rook got the foster care system. Some girls get Prince Charming. Rook got an abusive frog. Some girls get lucky…

Rook got a second chance.

And she took it. Because when fate throws you a bone – you grab it with both hands and run.

Antoine Chaput knows the minute he spies Rook in his photography studio that she’s got The Look. The dark and desperate look he must have to land the exclusive TRAGIC media contract.

Rook is paired up with top model, Ronin, and he’s everything her abusive ex-boyfriend wasn’t. Patient, gentle, happy, attentive, and sexy! He knows exactly what to do to make Rook blush for Antoine’s camera.

Rook’s luck changes in an instant and suddenly she’s the darling of the modeling world. It’s a dream job to go with a dream guy and all she has to do is look pretty and follow directions. But there’s always a price to pay – and Rook is about to get the bill.

Before I get on with the official review business, I just have to comment on Tragic's absolutely in-FREAKING-credible cover. If it doesn't catch your attention, you need LASIK. The powdered sugar glitter lips, the perfect red cherry and the use of the super block and super script fonts are book cover design genius.

Okay - the story. Rook is in a bad place since she has escaped from her abusive boyfriend and now has no money and no place to live. By sheer chance, she ends up with an invite to pose for a renowned photographer, and he ends up giving her a job and an apartment rent-free. Which happens to be in the same building as the photographer and his family. And, his family includes smokin' hot model Ronin who soon has Rook blurring the lines between her job and her life.

Let's start with Rook. She truly is tragic. Her past is so sad, and mad props to her for taking charge of her life and taking a crazy chance. She does some things that she thinks may go against her moral code, but she justifies it with the massively large paycheck that's been promised to her, which gives her the chance at a truly new life. See? Sad.

But, then there's Ronin, who she didn't bank on. He's supposed to pose with her in her modeling shoots, and by "pose" I mean make out with her in a BIG way while a bunch of people watch them and move lights and snap cameras. Rook thinks there's no way she can do this, yet, Ronin makes her forget about everyone else, and she begins to think that maybe this is real. Or, maybe not.
"In the few seconds we twined our gaze together I heard myself ask him to kiss me a million ways in my thoughts, and if I spoke the language of my own desire then I'd know for certain that I almost begged him to do it with the look on my face."
I really loved the modeling aspect in Tragic. It's something I haven't seen in another book, and I appreciate the change of scenery. I loved that, although there was definitely mutual attraction between Rook and Ronin, it wasn't insta-love. It took awhile before any declaration of true feelings happens from either of them. But, boy, Ronin is smooooth with the words when he decides he wants to be.
"I could describe what you look like, but that's not what I see. You are so much more than a body inside a dress, Rook. You fit me... You stopped me dead in my tracks, you wiped my mind."
Tragic is told from both Rook's and Ronin's POVs, which is my favorite way to tell a story. It was the perfect mix of fun, sexy and... tragic. This was a really fantastic new adult book from J. A. Huss. I can't wait for Manic (Rook and Ronin #2) to come out this summer to see where Rook's and Ronin's relationship goes next.
