I love novellas. While not essential to the overall main story arc, they do add so much extra depth to the characters we already know that I consider them necessary reads in the series that I really love. Impulse is the arm of HarperTeen that's dedicated to short stories and novellas, and recently they have offered two novellas from two of my favorite series. And, now I'm offering them to you, too!

The Prince (The Selection #0.5)
I read The Selection last year and absolutely loved it. You can check out my review here. I'm totally and completely on Team Maxon at the moment, so learning that The Prince (The Selection #0.5) is told from Maxon's POV made it a must-read for me.

Die For Her (Revenants #2.5)
Anyone that's been hanging around my blog for any amount of time knows what a total fangirl I am about Amy Plum and her Revenants series. Check out my reviews for Die For Me, Until I Die and If I Should Die. Yup - 5 stars for every one. Owning Die For Her is a no-brainer. Plus, it's told from Jules' POV, and after Vincent and Kate, he's my favorite character. Any extra insight into his psyche is a plus.

What a heart-stopping, action-packed, swoon-worthy end to this amazing series. If I Should Die starts mere minutes after the conclusion of Until I Die. (I have to thank the amazing Amy Plum for this. I hate when we lose so much time between books!) If I had had time, I would've re-read Die For Me and Until I Die before starting this book. But, when the ARC for If I Should Die appeared on my doorstep, I started in on it immediately. And, thankfully, Plum's storytelling helped me remember the small bits I had forgotten, which weren't many. So, never fear if you don't have the time for a re-read either. Unlike with some books, I didn't find that I needed it to fall right into the story.
 
Vincent and Kate's future together were left in limbo when Vincent was, for all intents and purposes, killed. Like, for good. The beginning of If I Should Die was very emotional as we see Kate and the rest of the Paris Revenants trying to come to grips with this fact. Vincent is still with them after a fashion, and those scenes between he and Kate were so heartbreaking. 

But, it is through this situation that we see how Kate has grown since the beginning of Die For Me. Then, her grief nearly paralyzed her, keeping her from living her life to its fullest. Now, in If I Should Die, Kate's grief fuels a fire in her that demands answers and retribution, to some extent. She is spurred to action and doesn't accept what everyone else says is inevitable. 

And, Vincent? Well, he's always been amazing. Hell, even without a body, this guy is one of the most romantic ones ever. His love, protection and dominance over situations has been constant. 

We had a chance to see some of the supporting characters shine in If I Should Die. Ambrose, Aurthur, Jules, Georgia, Gerhard - even Mamie and Papy - added so much depth to this story. So many times, all the life is given to the main two characters and the supporting cast are so cardboard. Flat. If I Should Die is not just the story of Kate and Vincent. It's all these people and how they work together to fix a problem. Well, several problems, really. But they all have so much life. Which is awesome, because I have come to love all these characters so much.  

All of the problems and questions that we had at the end of Until I Die are resolved in one way or another. And, they are resolved in epic, ass kicking fashion. New relationships form. Old ones are stripped apart. I am telling you - it does not disappoint.

How can you say enough good things about a book that keeps you up half the night, trying to figure out what is going to happen next? Several days after I read the last two words in Until I Die, I still found myself thinking about it!

Until I Die picks up right where Die For Me (Revenants #1) ended. Which I love. I hate it when books skip a ton of time between installments. I feel like I've missed a lot of the story. Vincent and Kate are together, but that is not without its problems. As they try to find a solution for those problems that they both can live with (literally), everyone around them is bracing for a new fight with the Numa.

The Revenants series is about complex and fascinating people, is set in a magical city, and is steeped in some amazingly creative and unique mythology. So, really - is there anything else you need? Plum has painted some truly interesting characters with her writer's brush. Each of them has a different personality and voice in the story. I find Kate and Vincent to be totally believable. Kate has the difficulties one would expect from a 17-year-old girl who is in love with someone who's not quite human. And even ever-patient Vincent loses his cool every now and again as he grows more and more frustrated with the cards life has dealt him.

That ending!! Amy, how could you do that to me? It was exciting and heart-breaking and infuriating all at the same time. I have my own theories and wishes for book #3, but I know that no matter what happens, Plum will not fail to deliver another amazing read.
