(Synopsis) She was off limits, But he couldn't resist.
There are just some guys you don't touch--even someone as innocent and inexperienced as Ella Shaw knows that. But when her brother's best friend is up for grabs and willing, she can't resist. After all, she's wanted him for years...
On leave from the army, Tyler Dare is just looking for a little fun, but his best friend's sister is off limits. Yet unable to deny how sexy and alluring she is, he finds it all too easy to succumb to a night of passion and heat that ends the next morning in the worst way possible.
Now, Ella is stranded on a tropical island with a hurricane bearing down, and only Tyler can save her. It's his chance to make amends for the past and show the woman he's never forgotten that he's coming after her . . . in more ways than one.
Tyler Dare was the last hold out - while all his siblings, half-siblings and cousins have been finding love in the Dare to Love series, he's resisted for some reason. Now we know that the main reason was because he didn't feel like he could have the woman he wanted - the woman he's wanted for awhile now.
Dare to Take was a great second chance love story. I just love those! It proves that, even though you make mistakes, if you man up and make them right, there's still a chance at happiness. And Tyler definitely made mistakes with Ella. She has wanted him ever since she was young, and finally at age 18 when Tyler was home on leave from the Army, she makes her move. Which is, at first reciprocated. Very much so. And then, when the dust settles and Tyler realizes what - and WHO - he's done, he's ashamed and angry at himself. He lashes out and ruins his relationship with Ella for years to come.
The best part of second chance love stories is that moment when the pair are thrown together again. It's never by their own choosing and they always resist at first. Silly people. How could they not realize that, if you are able to carry hurt and resentment around with you for YEARS, then you care far more than you choose to acknowledge.
Of course, Tyler and Ella are thrown together in the wake of a hurricane, and then once they return, they are forced to stay together when it appears that someone is targeting Ella for some unknown reason, and she's in danger. That's what makes this book really fun - in addition to reading about Ella and Tyler fumbling around, trying to figure out their feelings for one another, there's also a mysterious attacker out there with motives unknown.
Dare to Take had highs and lows. Things between the children and the patriarch of the family, Robert Dare, finally come to a head, which if you ask me, was a long time coming, and should've been a lot more painful. We see many of the former couples introduced in previous books, which is always fun. It's hard to believe this is the final book in the series, but we've run out of Dares, and it's been a fantastic time getting to know every one of them.
