BLOG TOUR GUEST POST & GIVEAWAY: Demanding Ransom

I'm super excited to be a part of the Demanding Ransom Blog Tour, hosted by Kismet Tours. Even better, today, I'm hosting Demanding Ransom author Megan Squires as she shares her thoughts on the makings of a book trailer.

The Makings of a Book Trailer

I love the idea of book trailers. There is something so theatrical about them. When I read a book, my mind automatically creates the characters, acts out the scenes, and plays a mini movie in my head. I love how a trailer is the visual manifestation of that.

When writing Demanding Ransom, I knew a book trailer was in the cards. I had a photoshoot planned and hoped to be able to snag some footage as well. With my luck, our actors/models had fantastic chemistry that translated so well on screen.

I had a few "scenes" I wanted to capture so I made an outline just to be sure to stay on track during the actual shoot. My assistant was super helpful, reminding me to capture different angles, directions. I wasn't sure how much I would need to piece together for the final trailer, so I took more than I needed. Just like with the editing process in writing, there's a definite editing process when it comes to video.

Then came the actual trailer. I have a whole new respect for videographers. Having an idea of what you imagine and actually getting there are two completely different things. With the help of my fantastic hubby and his coworker, I learned to navigate my way around Adobe Premiere and was able to couple my footage with the quotes that I had in mind. In the end, I was able to create my perfect visual storytelling of Demanding Ransom. I couldn't be happier!

About Demanding Ransom

Sometimes life takes things away from you.

In nineteen-year-old Maggie Carson’s case, it’s taken more than its fair share.

Determined to move forward, Maggie embarks on her first year of college, hoping to finally put her past behind her, exactly where it belongs.

But that’s hard to do when the present is just as difficult. And even harder when someone like Ran, the gorgeous paramedic that keeps crossing Maggie’s path, challenges her to face things head on, rather than bury them like she always does.

Ran hasn’t had a perfect life either. But there’s something different about him, and something different about the way he makes Maggie feel. Maybe meeting Ran is life’s little gift for Maggie—a sort of consolation prize for enduring everything she's had to go through.

But things don’t come easy for Maggie. Why should love be the exception? And just when everything starts to settle, it’s all turned on its head once again.

If there is one thing Ran has taught Maggie, it’s that you can’t sit on the sidelines of your own existence. When life takes something that’s yours, you have every right to demand it back.

Only for Maggie, that is easier said than done.
