RESPECT THE RULES. RESPECT THE CLUB. - Rule #2

Katie McGarry kicked off her new Thunder Road series last week, and the first book in it, NOWHERE BUT HERE, is nothing short of incredible. I'm so excited to take part in a special tour, where a few bloggers and Katie McGarry herself teach you how to Respect the Rules. Respect the Club. Today, I bring you Rule #2: Treat the Cut with Respect.

Rule #2: Treat the Cut with Respect

I SWING OFF MY BIKE, SHOVE MY KEYS INTO MY pocket and head over to the only guy I’d be willing to call a best friend other than Chevy. The ultra-white three-piece Reign of Terror patch on Razor’s cut is what makes him stick out among everyone else. The darker and dirtier the patch, the more honor there is. It means years of wear and tear within the club. Razor patched in a few weeks ago. ~ Oz’s Point of View from NOWHERE BUT HERE

One of the first rules I learned when I researched motorcycle clubs is that the cut—the black vest with patches sewn on it that only a club member can wear— is to be treated with respect. The cut and patches can also be known as a club’s “colors”. This cut is not only a sign of which motorcycle club they belong to and what chapter they call home, but it is also a source of pride.

The motorcycle club I hung out with would not touch each other’s patches when hugging. They’d hug high as a sign of respect. I heard stories of how, if a rival club wanted to disrespect another club, they would steal the cut of that club and hang it in their clubhouse.

The cut is a source of pride and a badge of honor.

My 5 STAR Review

(From Goodreads) Seventeen-year-old Emily likes her life the way it is: doting parents, good friends, good school in a safe neighborhood. Sure, she's curious about her biological father—the one who chose life in a motorcycle club, the Reign of Terror, over being a parent—but that doesn't mean she wants to be a part of his world. But when a reluctant visit turns to an extended summer vacation among relatives she never knew she had, one thing becomes clear: nothing is what it seems. Not the club, not her secret-keeping father and not Oz, a guy with suck-me-in blue eyes who can help her understand them both.

Oz wants one thing: to join the Reign of Terror. They're the good guys. They protect people. They're…family. And while Emily—the gorgeous and sheltered daughter of the club's most respected member—is in town, he's gonna prove it to her. So when her father asks him to keep her safe from a rival club with a score to settle, Oz knows it's his shot at his dream. What he doesn't count on is that Emily just might turn that dream upside down.

No one wants them to be together. But sometimes the right person is the one you least expect, and the road you fear the most is the one that leads you home.
