(Synopsis) I have a crush on my boss’ best friend. At least it’s not my brother’s best friend.
Or my best friend’s brother.
Or… never mind. It’s all pretty cliche.
And worse? My boss’ best friend is his business partner. Which sort of makes him my boss too. Okay - it’s not sort of. It’s definite. Gabe Laurent is off limits. Totally off limits.
Which is fine. I make do with my imagination. He’ll never know. Ever. Unless my work bestie passes me an eighties-style teen movie sex quiz during a meeting and I fill it out.
And it ends up in Gabe’s hands…
I love the awkward girls. Maybe because I can totally relate to their inner fantasies and outer hot messes. Sandra is a perfect representation of the sweet awkward girl who has taken to living in the shadows because she's too afraid to be bold. And it takes the loud, brash, take-no-prisoners Gabs Laurent to break her out of her shell. Well, him and her totally inappropriate BFF and a meddling Everly.
Gabe takes a second look at his partner's assistant Sandra after seeing her answers to a meeting evaluation. It wasn't actually the REAL evaluation, but one doctored by her best friend, and definitely not one meant for eyes other than hers. But, that second look is all it takes to pique Gabe's interest. And he's pleasantly surprised by what he sees.
The girl that hides underneath office-appropriate attire and a staunch work ethic is willing to be introduced to a little wild in her life. And she has always wanted the person to show her that to be Gabe. Which suits him just fine. But, getting her to loosen up enough to experience and embrace that wild is a challenge. Good thing Gabe has never backed down from a challenge.
The events of Fling and Right overlap a bit. If you've read Right (and if you haven't, WHY NOT??), you will remember Everly cornering Sandra at a work event and sexying up her party outfit before convincing her to go home "sick" and to have Gabe be the one to drive her. Fling begins a short time before that event and ends a short time after it, and this time we get to see the party from Sandra's deer-in-the-headlights POV, as well as Gabe's, which was so much fun.
One thing Jana Aston excels at is getting me to laugh and swoon at the same time. Her stories are hilariously funny at times and incredibly poignant at others. I laughed out loud at Sandra's evaluation mix-up and felt for her as she admired Gabe from afar and found herself not measuring up to what she thought his standards should be. I could relate to Sandra in those moments and was so glad that Gabe was the white-knight sort of guy that would make her happiness his mission.
Although you don't need to have read Wrong or Right to appreciate and love Fling, it obviously will contextually make more sense if you do. But, even if you don't, I promise you'll still love Gabe and Sandra's banter, you'll overheat at their sexy times, and you'll swoon at his grand gestures to win her affection. There is simply no way you can go wrong with Fling.

Why the fuck is she going out with Dave on Friday? It's ridiculous. What is he giving her that I'm not? She can't be fucking him. I mean she could—we haven't even quantified what is happening between us, so it's possible. It's just not likely. All the blushing when I touch her. The lack of condoms at her apartment. And I know even thinking it makes me a dick, but she doesn't seem like the type to sleep with more than one guy in the same week. So no, I don't think she's having sex with Dave.
He is a lawyer. That's probably appealing to women, right? But I'm the chief financial officer of a multibillion-dollar corporation. That trumps lawyer, doesn't it? Hell, he's not even the head of legal, not even close. How long has that guy worked here anyway? I open a browser on my desktop and access the company employment files. Dave Harcourt, twenty-five, a year younger than Sandra. He graduated from law school last spring and started working here a month after. He's probably still in debt from school. Fuck, what kind of dick am I for even thinking about this?
I should take her out. Dave's taking her out; I should stop having sex with her at the office and take her out on a date. Now how do I get sweet Sandra to agree to date me?
I drum my fingers on my desk. I think she's been avoiding me all week. She disappeared on Monday after the liaison in my office and it's been cloak-and-dagger ever since. I could pull her phone number from the company database and start sexting her, but I think that might freak her out.
I want to take her to dinner, somewhere nice, and maybe a show. I should woo her, take her to New York City for the weekend. Pull out all the stops and convince her to give me a chance. Because I want to be with Sandra. I fucking like Sandra. And I’m a goddamned idiot for thinking a fling with her would be enough.
