(From Goodreads) If we didn’t know darkness, we couldn’t fully appreciate the light.
Garth Black’s more familiar with this concept than most people are. He hadn’t just lived in the dark for the majority of his life—he thrived in it. With a mom who’d bailed on him and a dad whose understanding of coddling started and ended with a bottle of whiskey, Garth had never been expected to rise to any sort of occasion other than following down the same dead-end paths.
That changed when he fell in love with Josie Gibson. After years of pulling each other closer before shoving the other way, they finally stopped shoving. Josie’s love is like nothing Garth’s ever experienced. He holds it close. He holds it sacred. He would do anything to preserve it and keep it from pollution, even if that means removing himself from the picture.
Garth might have been allowed a temporary furlough to bask in the light, but that pass has been revoked, and he’s been swallowed again by the dark. Will he revert to his old ways of hurting those he cares for most? Will he go back to the same destructive patterns . . . or will it be worse this time?
We can’t know light without first knowing dark . . . and Garth Black’s about to get acquainted with the dark in a whole new way.
What. A. HEARTBREAKER. If you love those books with a healthy dose of angst, then you MUST pick up LOSERS WEEPERS. It will satiate your desire to get weepy, no doubt.
If there's one thing about Garth Black, it's that tragedy always seems to find him, no matter how hard he tries to hide from it. He thought he had finally shaken it when he and Josie declared their love for each other and rode off into the sunset. But, trouble found him once again in an incredibly cruel way. Now, Garth is faced with losing everything he ever wanted, including Josie.
Garth plays the role of the tragic hero all too well. He swooped in and, after a lot of beatings, finally made Josie Gibson his girl. Garth could be the most perfect boyfriend ever. He is incredibly protective, sweet and sexy, and although you wouldn't ever guess this from the gruff bull-rider, very romantic. When it comes to Josie, Garth is a completely different man from the one we met all the way back in book 1. Garth Black in love is a beautiful thing.
Her love was so big and overwhelming that each day with her erased another day of pain and failure from my past. Her love was magic, healing me as it lifted me up, and though she tried convincing me otherwise, I knew I could spend ten lifetimes trying and failing to give her what she'd given me in a year's time.
It has been a year since the events at the end of Finders Keepers (Lost and Found #3). Everything seems to be going perfectly for Garth until one split second changes absolutely everything for him. He is thrown into a tailspin that only lands him in the deepest, darkest depression he has ever known. I'll tell you what - Garth Black has the power to take me to the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
When Garth reaches rock bottom, his concern is mostly for Josie. Like before, he doesn't think himself good enough for her and starts battling the same feelings of guilt and self-loathing that he thought he had overcome the year before. Only, this time, those feelings are tempered with some very real concerns for the future.
It was at this time that my chest constricted and a lump formed in my throat, and neither left until the end of the book. The problems that Garth Black are up against are very real and very, very big. His situation broke my heart, and his feelings which waffled back and forth between despair, anger, acceptance, and everything in between. My feelings mirrored his.
The real star of this show, however, was Josie. Josie's feelings never waffled. Ever. She knows who she loves and what she wants. Her love is completely unconditional. She loves Garth as he is, no matter what, and that is a rare thing, indeed. Getting him to believe that, however, is a monumental task. No matter what Garth does to try and get her away from him, she never once wavers. Not even for a second. Josie is forceful and strong and absolutely everything that Garth needs.
Losers Weepers is once again told entirely from Garth's POV. No complaints there. It's not nearly as hot as many NA books I read, but the sexy times between Garth and Josie were definitely sexy.
There were a lot of scenes with Jesse and Rowen, and things were set up for their final book in this series. It was nice seeing the friendship between Jesse and Garth, that was in such disrepair in the first book, flourish and strengthen. Garth really relied on Jesse in Losers Weepers, and it was nice to see that.
I really hope that Garth and Josie can just be happy now. This guy has seen a ton of really awful stuff in his life, and I'm just ready for it to be over so that he and Josie can get on with their lives now. They have big plans and good friends, and I have high hopes for them. Finally.
I’m the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of the CRASH series (HarperTeen, S&S UK), LOST & FOUND series, UP IN FLAMES (S&S UK), The EDEN TRILOGY, and a handful of others. I write stories about everyday kinds of people who find themselves in extraordinary kinds of situations. I tell love stories with happy endings because I believe in making the world a better place, and that’s one tiny way I can make it so. I’m one of those people who still believe in true love and soul mates, and would rather keep my head in the clouds any day over having my feet firmly on the ground.

Ahhh, I need to read this! I have books 1 and 3 (think I caught them when free) waiting on my Kindle. I especially love knowing that, from the author's bio, a happy ending should happen. Sometimes sad ones are okay, but reading is an escape from reality to me. Why read something that'll leave you feeling down? I like seeing that no matter what troubles occur, good things await :)
ReplyDeleteI have a question for you - what did you think of the flow of the story? A lot of the time, I'll try to read an NA/adult romance and get frustrated because it feels like the sex scenes are completely disjoint from the story. The character's voice changes, or there's a huge increase in how descriptive the writing is. It'll feel like the author wrote the story around the sex, versus writing the sex scenes when the story naturally gets to that point. I'm reading for the story, and it just sucks when you're into it and then thrown because it sounds like a different book. Just like how I dislike what I call Disney romances. When the two characters can't stand each other, then it's like a switch is flipped and they're head over heels.
One last thing - a quote popped into my head when reading about the way Josie cares for Garth. http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/9d/6c/d6/9d6cd689855bcf4bef5109310d9da3bd.jpg (sorry, I'd have embedded it, but the HTML tags for showing an image don't seem to work with your settings)
