(From Goodreads) Stalking and restraining orders are a thing of Alayna Wither’s past. With her MBA newly in hand, she has her future figured out—move up at the nightclub she works at and stay away from any guy who might trigger her obsessive love disorder. A perfect plan.
But what Alayna didn’t figure on is Hudson Pierce, the new owner of the nightclub. He’s smart, rich, and gorgeous—the kind of guy Alayna knows to stay away from if she wants to keep her past tendencies in check. Except, Hudson’s fixed his sights on her. He wants her in his bed and makes no secret of it.
Avoiding him isn’t an option after he offers a business proposition she can’t turn down and she’s drawn further into his universe, unable to resist his gravitational pull. When she learns Hudson has a dark history of his own, she realizes too late that she’s fallen for the worst man she could possibly get involved with. Or maybe their less than ideal pasts give them an opportunity to heal each other and finally find the love their lives have been missing.
If you loved Sylvia Day's Crossfire series, then you're seriously gonna LOVE Fixed On You by Laurelin Paige.
Lannie Wither is a girl who has been known to fall in love too hard and too far. It has gotten so far in the past that she has been charged with stalking and trespassing. After therapy, an MBA and purposely not entering into any relationship with a man she could potentially love, she thinks she's pretty much better. Then Hudson Pierce walks into her bar and asks her to pretend to be engaged to him to fool his evil mother. Lannie thinks she has what it takes to separate love and a job. Hudson thinks he's safe because he's incapable of loving anyone. Those two crazy kids.
I really loved this book. I could really relate to Alayna. Although I've never been arrested for stalking or anything nuts like that, I can appreciate feeling like you love someone so much you can't let them go. And, I know how crappy that is. I loved Alayna's strength. She has tried so hard to separate herself from her past and not let it define her. Even though her awful brother keeps shoving it in her face every chance he gets.
I thought Hudson was an awesome character as well. He, too, has had difficulties to overcome and has done his best with what he has been given. Hudson is a study in the lesson that money cannot buy happiness. His mother is the absolute worst. She has spent nearly his entire life telling him he's not only not worthy to be loved, but that he's incapable of loving someone back. Yet, he's become a very successful business man with lots of superficial friends.
I really loved how Hudson and Lannie interacted together. I liked how Lannie tried and tried to keep her feelings separate. And, how, when she felt herself starting to slip back into old patterns, she got some help and tried to communicate. These two don't have an easy road ahead of them, but I think they are both determined enough to try things for real. Lannie gives Hudson hope that he really can have a real relationship, and Hudson convinces Lannie that she's capable of real love. I guess the overarching theme for this book is hope. And how important it is to have hope if you're going to face down the challenges that life throws at you.
Fixed On You is told in Lannie's POV. I'd love to get inside Hudson's head at some point. I bet it's crazy awesome in there. The heat between these two is scorching. It's not only a super sexy book, it's really sweet too. I love the banter and the silliness that Lannie and Hudson experience sometimes. And, I love how protective of her he can be at times.
Fixed On You was a really great romantic story. I am looking forward to continuing their story in Found In You (Fixed #2), out in early October.
About the Author
Laurelin Paige is a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however. When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Mad Men and the Walking Dead, or dreaming of Adam Levine. She is represented by Bob Diforio of D4EO Literary Agency.
